With some good news stories happening around the centre at the moment, we thought we’d give you a look behind the scenes!
You’re sure to have noticed the new bicycle storage unit outside the centre’s main reception.
We’re really grateful to those who’ve helped with the unit’s funding, giving Tyldesley FREE, secure bicycle storage that encourages our local community to leave the car at home and cycle instead.

Wigan Borough Community First has approved a grant for the Pelican Centre from its Stronger Spaces fund, which aims to improve community spaces across the Borough.
The funding will pay for:
The Pelican Centre is also funding our own upgrade to lighting in the changing rooms. The upgraded system will be more energy-efficient, brighter and safer, and will last for years to come.
You’ll see all works taking place over the coming months. We’re working closely with our contractors to minimise disruption to centre users while we make improvements.
Congratulations to Joe, Ellie and Zach who recently passed their Level 2 apprenticeships with the Pelican Centre! We believe strongly in growing our own talent, training and creating careers for local young people that builds a sustainable business.
Joe, Ellie and Zach have now moved onto Level 3 Sport & Leisure apprenticeships – good luck!

Experienced teacher Josephine Costello is running Maths workshops for local students this summer and into the new school year.
Small group sessions cover KS3 and GCSE Maths, helping students to improve their number skills and build their Maths confidence.
Book group sessions for Y7–Y11 from Monday 17th August, or ask about 1-2-1 sessions for more tailored tutoring.
Contact Josephine for more info and to book.
The Pelican Centre is committed to water safety education that keeps you safe in the water, both indoors and outdoors.
We know how tempting a dip outdoors might be, but everyone in our community – including children, teens and parents – should be aware of the dangers of swimming in unsupervised open water, and know how to avoid preventable injuries and deaths.
Your must-read this summer: Swim safely with our open water tips
Proud to be Wigan Borough's largest independant leisure facility, the Pelican Centre helps our community to Feel Good mentally, physically and socially, no matter the time of year.
With great-value membership fees, our affordble and accessible swim, gym, classes and community spaces help you to achieve your fitness goals and offer fantastic opportunities to learn a new skill, connect with others, give support to those who need it and have fun.
What are you waiting for?
