Know where your money goes

The Pelican Centre is a not-for-profit registered charity, so every penny benefits our members. No faceless shareholders, no corporate set-up – just local employees, volunteers and members.

Income is reinvested into the centre, helping us to continually upgrade our facilities and grow our Feel Good Fitness offer – from new plant and machinery to new gym kit, more swimming teachers and more classes, we work hard to offer the best local facilities around.

Award-winning opportunities for local people

In 2022, we were thrilled to receive The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service – the MBE for voluntary organisations in the UK.

There are countless ways to get involved with volunteering or to start a new career with the Pelican Centre, from leisure apprenticeships and lifeguard courses to maintenance, event support and even as a member of our volunteer trustee board.

From new classes and longer opening hours, to our growing Gym Workshop series and events like Go-Tri, there’s always something different to keep you on track.

Building a stronger community together

The Pelican Centre is proud to support isolated and vulnerable individuals, families and older people in Tyldesley, Atherton and Astley through our memberships.

Whether it’s free swimming lessons, activities developed for particular groups, or a warm welcome for older people – and even the preservation of our building for the next generation – the Pelican Centre is rooted in our community.
